The 38 super +P chambering in Colt’s 1911 platform has always been one of misunderstanding by some otherwise well intentioned shooters describing it to the novice. We all know that guy or gal who thinks they know more about the shooting sciences than anyone. The self same people preach the gospel of the anemic 9mm over 38 Special or .357 Magnum using words like semi-auto or high capacity as if their vaulted self importance matters. By saying the 38 Super +P is a Latino thing they hammer home their own ignorance proving forever that what they say isn’t to be trusted.
The 38 Super +P isn’t new by a long shot, it’s not a Latino thing, it has more steam than a 9mm falling just short of the legendary .357 Magnum. The Colt 38 Super +P 1911 is an incredibly flat shooting accurate whiz bang with virtually no recoil. Follow up shots with Colt’s 38 Super +P are very quick to the point of being almost instantaneous.
“Why haven’t I tried the Colt 38 Super +P if it’s so great?”,” you might wonder. That’s a very good question!
The recent surge of interest comes as more and more people become informed consumers, riding that digital wave of the internet super highway to destinations lined with facts not fiction.(sometimes) Your know it all shooting friend hates being wrong and proudly displays his new Colt 38 Super +P at the next range day like he had it all along even. The rise is partly because of ammo availability in the digital age, and partly because it’s the gun that could, and believe me it does.
Colt’s 1911 in 38 Super +P offering is vast with some exceptionally fine guns coming out of the Custom Shop and the regular production line as well. Shooters who don’t swim with the sharks in the competition seas have been missing out on a truly great shooter with a lot of power. It’s no secret that a lot of our brothers from the lower Americas prefer this round in a Colt 1911, they aren’t allowed to use military calibers for firearms so the 38 Super +P filled their need for a good shooter.
Every time I’m at the range with a Colt 38 Super +P 1911 and someone gets their dirty sandwich grabbers on it they are amazed how much better they shoot with it. You can see the gears turning in their head when the look at the spent cartridges, trying to figure out what it is. For some it’s only natural to be confused, what they thought was a .45 caliber 1911 turns out to be something completely different and a new found love story starts. Luckily I live close to The Gun Room Inc. so I can get more bullets to shoot easily, but as stated above a person can get just about anything they want from the internet, ammo included.
If you haven’t tried the Colt 38 Super +P you owe it to yourself as a shooter to try it, and if you are looking for a good first gun but the thought of the .45’s recoil makes you uneasy the Colt 38 Super +P may be what you are looking for. The Gun Room Inc. has you covered with the Colt 38 Super +P 1911, in fancy dress or plain blued. Give us a call or better yet stop in and see one for yourself, you will be glad you did.
