Lost And Found

The headline is a bit misleading, but it still holds merit. This morning when I put my feet into my boots and put on my trusty Stormy Kromer jacket I had to decide between my toque or my Stormy Kromer hat, the wind was too cold and too strong for my ball cap. In the end I opted for the Stormy Kromer hat, it had a loss guarantee from Stormy Kromer and besides that it functioned as the ball cap I wanted to wear but offered the warmth of the toque.

Those of you who are from the more Southern latitudes will be wondering what a toque is, think knit hat or beanie and you have the picture. While pretty good in the snow most offer no sun protection for your face like a billed hat does, and a billed hat is the type that gets blown off your head and offers no warmth. Stormy Kromer checks off all the boxes so it’s what gets worn when the wind is up and the chill is down.

If you’re a high latitude sailor or hunter chances are you probably know what a Stormy Kromer hat is, those below 45N who wear them are mostly the younger crowd who see it as a fashion statement rather than necessary gear. The fashion thing I get, but I’m more of a function guy, Stormy Kromer definitely has some pretty fashionable offerings but man it’s the go to function wise.

As a technical fabric nothing beats good old fashioned wool sheared from actual sheep to keep you warm and happy, wet or dry. I’m not talking about sublimated dye patterned polyester, I’m talking dyed in the wool gear for outdoor activity. It reminds me of the difference between my old summer dress white uniform and my dress blues, the dress whites were polyester, and my dress blues were wool. I definitely preferred the dress blues on watch or out on liberty over the dress whites. Did I mention that Stormy Kromer is made in  the US, can you say that about your hat or jacket?

It’s true that when you buy a Stormy Kromer hat that you can go on their website and register that hat to take advantage of the free replacement program. If you lose your Stormy Kromer they’ll replace it for free for one year, that’s how sure they are of their product and it’s ability. Stormy Kromer makes a pretty good toque as well, their women’s mohair and wool blend beanie is my favorite because it’s so soft. Who cares if it’s made for women? I wear it when the snow drifts high and the days are dark and short, it doesn’t make my head itch after wearing it all day like an acrylic hat does. My Stormy Kromer coat and vest are about as good as it gets, and the Stormy Kromer hat selection is large enough that I always have something that looks as good as it works.

I get my Stormy Kromer gear at The Gun Room Inc., but I really haven’t had to get any since 1994 with the exception of a couple of new styles of SK hats. My originals are still working as good today as back when I first bought them all those years ago.

get you some!

Hoyt Archery 2019 Models In Stock

If there is one thing I hate when I go to the grocery store it’s when they put up Christmas decorations the next day after Halloween. To combat this oppressive consumerism I go down to the local gun store and get my chakras realigned.

Sitting there against the wall were some suspicious looking packages with Hoyt written on them. Putting down my seasonal chai candy cane tea, and picking up the box made me think it was Christmas early and the room began to spin.

When I came back to the real world I asked the archery pro Shaun what’s in the box and he nodded, smiled, and said 2019 Hoyt bows. I didn’t get past the REDWRX-3 Carbon before the vapors started coming on again and I had to sit down. It was light as air and I was convinced I was dreaming.

What brought me back to reality this time was Shaun waving a new for 2019 bow called the “Helix” in front of my face. That bow in my hand made me instantly grow a 5 o’clock shadow and throw my chai tea into the trash.

If you are like me and new to hunting throw that pumpkin spice latte into the trash and spend your money on something worth wile and get yourself a new 2019 Hoyt Archery Bow in stock at The Gun Room Inc.

Ask for Shaun and get the goods all setup to your specs.

The Digital Divide

In the up coming weeks The Gun Room Inc. will be launching an online store to bridge the digital divide. Many other gun stores have already made the move with digital online sales to qualified FFL holders/stores, but we have remained out of the mainstream side of the market.

The Gun Room Inc. has always been about fine firearms for hunting and collecting, and never into the plastic fantastic generation of guns and gun owners like the other guys. That being said The Gun Room Inc. will be focusing on the hard to find good stuff rather than being a clearing house for plastic guns. If you are looking for “tacticool” you’ll be better off with the other shops, if you want an original issue Colt single action The Gun Room Inc. has your six.

Once the main framework is up and running The Gun Room Inc. will offer additional items for the hunter and distinguished shooter looking to outfit themselves with the best gear.

In the future The Gun Room Inc. will be offering our Archery Pro Shop items no FFL required for the bow hunter looking for an edge. Our resident Shaun only sells what he’d hunt or has hunted with so you know it’s going to be right.

Yes the future of the Gun Room Inc. is looking better all the time, and soon people who live far away will be able to view and shop our extensive line of upper end rifles, shotguns and hand guns.

Archery Season Is Here

It’s happening again, another archery season is upon us here in the Pacific NW and the hunting is hot. If you’ve drawn your tag and are done putting salmon in your freezer it’s time to get out in the field and put some arrows to work.

Some of you folks out there don’t have your quiver loaded or your bow strung and are wondering about that old crusty bow you had problems with last year. The Gun Room Inc. has a full archery section upstairs and a resident bow guy that’s here to help. Shaun has bow hunted in Africa and taken some big and dangerous game with a bow where other have feared to tread with big iron.

If you need a new rig or want some arrows, a release, sights or anything else give Shaun a call (503)777-3931 and make your next hunt successful.

Wiley X Eye Protection

While cruising thru my email yesterday I noticed that exchange had a sale going on for Wiley X Eye Protection. For those of you wondering what the exchange is, imagine a shopping center for active US military and their dependents. Recently veterans were given access to the exchange online privileges and as such many of us who served are taking advantage of the savings. Anyhow as I said I had a look online as I always wanted another set to replace the ones we had back in the day, back in the fray. When I did an online search to compare pricing which most of us call “research” these days I found that The Gun Room Inc. right here in Portland had them in stock.

If I needed anymore prodding to drive over to the FOPO neighborhood to get a Super Deluxe hamburger and do a bit of gun store browsing this was it. I was surprised to see that The Gun Room Inc. had many different styles to choose from and at pricing that was the same as buying it online from the exchange and waiting. One word of warning if you’re planning a similar trip, if you are trying to get into both stores like I did the Super Deluxe will take awhile if you are around dinner time and The Gun Room Inc. closes at 6pm so plan accordingly.

I called The Gun Room Inc. while I waited for over 1/2 hour in the drive thru line at Super Deluxe and the person named Shaun said he’d wait for me to get there because it was looking like I was going to be late due to Super Deluxe popularity. I can’t thank the wonderful people at The Gun Room Inc. enough for waiting for me to make it and on top of everything giving me a veteran’s discount that made my purchase of Wiley X glasses even cheaper than I could get from the exchange.

The moral to my story is I had a real experience by going out and shopping in person despite my “research” online. I got a delicious hamburger, a great deal on some Wiley X glasses, and I met some great people at my new go to gun shop. Thanks Gun Room!

Thanks for the kind words, it was great meeting you and thank you for your service.

Hoyt Archery Summer Savings

I know it’s hard to think about anything when it’s so darn hot outside, but bow season is right around the corner so it’s time to get with the program. Sitting here in The Gun Room Inc’s air conditioned showroom I’m amazed at how many really good Hoyt Archery bows there are available for a song. Granted some are new old stock but the elk don’t care about that one bit.

One thing I noticed is The Gun Room already has the 2019 Hoyt Archery bows in stock and Shaun has even built up a couple of real nice bows that are field/hunt ready. I’m not an Olympic level archer, heck at best I pull a string once or twice a year just to keep fresh and relevant. When I look at the Hoyt Archery bows being built by Shaun I know it’s time to upgrade no matter my skill level because I just can’t pass on a deal like they have going on now.

For some reason I feel I need to own one of the new Hoyt Archery REDWRX Carbon builds Shaun has dangling neatly in front of me as he puts together another one for a customer.

I’m also needing a new quiver of arrows and thankfully Shaun has me covered on that end. When I’m out with my friends it’s good to have arrows that look different than theirs, sort of like golf balls with numbers I guess. The real thing about my arrow selection is I’m color blind. I have to pick fletch colors I can see in the bush for that fact alone.

Yes, the Hoyt Archery REDWRX is looking like it’s finding a new home, and it comes with it’s own case which is a plus because now I don’t need to find one myself or pay any extra money. Thanks Hoyt Archery! There was more archery stuff than I expected to find at The Gun Room Inc. to be honest, and I for sure wasn’t expecting to meet a pro like Shaun there.

Lionheart Regulus Milo’s Pick Of The Week

Milo is squawking about the new Lionheart Regulus models we got in awhile ago. Made in America, right up the road from us in fact. The Lionheart Industries Alpha Regulus model seems to be all the rage right now for beginners and experts alike.

When I first picked up the Lionheart Industries Regulus I was welcomed with a good fit to my hand, a pleasant metal heft and feel, but my feeble mind was blown by the smoothness of the slide and how easy it was to work the action. Even Milo’s bird claw would be able to work the Lionheart Industries Regulus 9mm action.

You don’t have to know anything about guns to tell the Lionheart Industries Alpha Regulus stacks up to the best. It seems like yesterday when Shaun asked Lionheart to spice up the LH9 for him and wolla! They delivered in spades! Here in my over sized hand sits a thing of beauty and craftmanship that goes bang every time I will it. Having several injuries to my old body has pretty much made me a wheel gunner but now I think I can manage the semi-autos again thanks to Lionheart Industries innovative approach to recoil management and slide cycling.

Did I mention this is a US Made Firearm?

I copied Lionheart Industries’ web text below in their own words.

Thanks to The Gun Room Inc. in Portland for putting one of these beauties in my hand, and thanks to Lionheart Industries for making quality sexy again.

The Regulus Story

Lionheart began importing our LH9-Series pistol in 2011. The LH9 is the civilian version of the K5, which has reliably served as South Korea’s Military service pistol for almost 30 years. In the years since 2011, the LH9 has become synonymous with quality, functionality, and reliability!

However, at Lionheart, our vision has always been greater than simply importing – our dream is to design and produce pistols in the United States!

In 2015 those dreams started to become a reality, as we began development of our all new American-made line, the Regulus! Lionheart is proud to say that the Regulus Platform is designed, sourced, and produced in the USA! While still based on the same battle-proven design of the LH9, each part of the Regulus has been refined into a high-performance pistol. It is the pinnacle of everything that we’ve dreamed of!

The Regulus platform is completely geared towards you, the shooter. Featuring better materials, improved internals, our Tru-Axis™ Precision Barrel, and a modular platform, it is unlike anything you’ve ever shot before! Our unique Double Action + trigger has been perfected, offering a fluid pull, a painless break, and a crisp reset! Upgraded sight, grip, magazine, and Cerakote® options mean that your Regulus will be the Lionheart you’ve been waiting for!

Moving forward, our vision is still the same as it was in 2011 – Exceptional Comes Standard. We believe in freedom, we strongly support the Second Amendment, and we are honored to join the prestigious group of American firearm manufacturers!

Colt Delta Elite 10mm Milo’s Pick Of The Week

Today while the boys were showing some handguns to a couple of U.S. Marines that came in Milo went into the back and came forward with a Colt Delta Elite 10mm 1911. I guess this week Milo is liking the Colt Delta Elite because he starts squawking every time someone tries to put it back away.

The debate over the 1911 VS any other handgun continues today but so many servicemen and women swear by it that it’ll likely go on forever. Speaking of debates when you start talking about bullets and chamberings everything goes out the window. One caliber that seems to be making more than a blip on the bullet radar is the 10mm.

Way up north in Alaska more people are carrying the 10mm as their backup replacing the old reliable 44 Magnum in many cases. The people who jumped on the .40 cal bandwagon have come around and are now snapping up Colt Delta Elites to scratch that power and speed itch.

The Colt Delta Elite 10mm 1911 equates to a very well thought out platform for the 10mm cartridge and the power it holds. People who like a handgun that shoots well and don’t want to compromise by switching to a diminutive caliber love the Colt Delta Elite because it checks all the boxes off.

FN Five-seveN® Milo’s Pick Of The Week

Milo was digging around in the back of the shop looking for some peanuts or other treats he stashed when all of a sudden there came a squawking. Turns out Milo found some FN Five-seveN® stock that wanted out of the box. Those of you who were able to get these when we had them (before the military and police designations) will remember how much fun they were. I’ll put FN’s blurb at the bottom of this post.

Imagine a pistol that holds 20 .556 caliber rounds in a magazine, then shrink down the ammo, magazine, pistol and get rid of the buffer tube and spring you were undoubtable thinking of and you have a FN Five-seven®. If you’re still with me you begin to see what the fuss is all about and you’re lacing up your boots to get down to The Gun Room Inc. to get one. Do you feel lucky? That’s what you’ll have to be to get your non- military or police hands on one today. We have a very few of these left and once they’re gone your luck runs out.

I’ve been wanting to get my mom one of these for her daily life on the property with all of the critters she comes across. The problem is they are so hard to get ammo for right?

Well color me surprised! I was able to have ammo on Monday from an order on Friday so it’s pretty easy to get legit ammo it seems. To me the real problem is now I have to decide if mom is getting one or I am!

Sure, it’s a gun made out of plastic that goes for well North of $1000, and frankly not even close to my style but…. Milo sure knows how to pick winners for being a parrot! Lightweight, high firepower, multiple mag fun sitting right in front of me with only a form 4473 standing in my way. I think you know how this story is going to end.

If you are just reading this you had already be reaching for the keys or you will miss out on this FN Five-seven® pistol until next time Milo goes on a treasure hunt in the tactical armory.

FN’s blurb is below.

“The FN Five-seveN® pistol was developed in the early 1990s and features a cold hammer-forged barrel that is chrome-lined for extended service life. The polymer-framed FN Five-seveN® offers single-action operation, low felt recoil, 20-round magazine capacity, and is equipped with an ambidextrous, forward-mounted manual safety, and an accessory rail that accepts tactical lights and lasers.
