Steyr S9A1 9MM Pistol

If you are new to hand guns or are a combat veteran with multiple tours the Steyr S9A1 may be for you. Steyr’s legend starts back well over 100 years ago, in fact the family and region is known for quality weapons dating back as far as the 1200s. So what makes the futuristic looking Steyr S9A1 any different than say the flavor of the week polymer (plastic) pistol?

From the novel triangular sights, to the grip angle, and low bore axis the Steyr S9A1 pistol is an instinctive shooter that requires very little effort to get on target for that first shot and following shots. The Steyr S9A1s’ design allows for a high grip ensuring positive muzzle control for even the smallest to the largest of hands.

Ten rounds in the magazine means this is a compact pistol with plenty of power for those shooters who follow the spray and pray technique. One thing I should note is that the Steyr is an easy to point and shoot pistol and one can’t help but make great shots like a pro so forget about spray and pray. Your shooting technique will improve with the Steyr whether you want it to or not. You can’t help but put rounds in the 10 ring with a Steyr and your friends with pistols from that other well known Austrian firm will get a case of severe envy.

We fed every kind of ammo that we had at the shop thru one of ours and found that the Steyr S9A1 gobbled it up and asked for more without a single stoppage. The trigger pull on the Steyr S9A1 is about as good as it gets for a striker fire type of firearm and uses a much better trigger safety than on other striker fire pistols we shoot for training and recreation.

As for carrying, the Steyr S9A1 makes for easy concealment whether inside the waistband or outside depending on your outfit and some concealed carry coats seem to be made with the Steyr in mind.

if you’re curious about the pistol that looks like it came from a silver screen sci-fi flick come on down to The Gun Room Inc. on SE Foster Rd. in Portland Oregon and see one for your self.

Here’s a random video from someone else talking about the Steyr S9A1 so you won’t have to take our word for it.

Milo’s Pic Of The Week

This whole last week Milo took some time off to get in a bit of quality range time with the Smith & Wesson 640-1 Pro Series.

What can Milo say but “Pretty Bird” he absolutely loves this pistol, this work of Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center high art. Milo loves that it shoots +P ammo non-stop, and with the cut out cylinder Milo uses moon clips for his quick tactical (or tacticlaw in Milo’s case) reloads. The Smith & Wesson Performance Center 640-1 Pro Series is meant for easy carry, easy concealment, and easy target acquisition due to the Trijicon night sights Smith & Wesson saw fit to include.

I’m not sure Milo’ even ate any crackers or peanuts this whole last week. Milo and Mike have been at it for days and they both have this pistol. If you are more of a sparrow than a parrot and don’t want to shoot full house .357cal you can also shoot .38 special which greatly reduces felt recoil and knocks the edges off some of the bark.

Smith & Wesson Specs from their page below:

OVERVIEW

Smith & Wesson J-Frame revolvers have had your back since 1950.  These small revolvers were designed to fire a full power round and are as simple and easy to use as they are reliable.  Available in various calibers and with three diverse hammer designs, it is no surprise that the Smith & Wesson J-Frame has become the most popular, small-frame, defense revolver on the market.

In 1995, Smith & Wesson introduced the Model 640, the first J frame revolver chambered in the powerful .357 Magnum round.   Based on Model 40 Centennial, the Model 640 is a small frame concealed hammer revolver that packs a full-sized punch.  The Model 640 Pro Series integrates the time-tested features of the original with modern advancements and competition specifications and features.

Features
• Stainless steel frame, barrel, and cylinder
• Front and Rear Dovetail Tritium Night Sight
• Concealed hammer

Sig Sauer Model 320 Modular System Adopted By US Army

When the dust settled from the highly competitive contract there were only two firearms makers left; Glock and Sig Sauer. During the 2017 Shot Show it was announced albeit a surprise to the competitors that Glock had been dropped like Beretta, and FN leaving only Sig Sauer Standing.

To celebrate Sig Sauer broke out the bubbly and passed flutes around for a celebratory toast to those present. Breaking the 30 year reign of Beretta and it’s 9mm platform made people cheer out loud, especially service members like this one who had a strong distaste for the aging model.

Most of the current military and Iraq / Afghanistan veterans I’ve talked to have regarded the Army’s decision as legit and definitely couldn’t come too soon. Some of us old timers never dropped the 1911 as a mission pistol and some of the branches are bringing it back again.

“By maximizing full and open competition across our industry partners, we have optimized private sector advancements in handguns, ammunition and magazines, and the end result will ensure a decidedly superior weapon system for our warfighters,” Army Acquisition Executive Steffanie Easter said said in a press release.

In their statements, Army and Sig officials didn’t specify what caliber the new Sig Sauer pistol will be.

Sig touts the P320 model product as “modular” and “adaptable,” with interchangeable grips, multiple sizes and calibers that can be converted between 9mm, .357SIG and .40S&W. “From calibers, to pistol size, to the grip fit best suited for the shooter, the P320 is the most adaptable pistol available today,” the company says in promotional materials.

Milo’s Picks Of The Week

Gun aficionado and expert Milo shares his picks of the week at The Gun Room Inc.

First pick by Milo is the Sig Sauer Legion in .40 caliber

The Legion has an external extractor, ergo furniture, all metal construction and fits Milo’s claw for fast draw and target acquisition.

Milo’s second pick this week is the Remington RP9 in 9mm

While Milo doesn’t usually like plastic on guns he likes the Remington RP9 for a lot of reasons. The trigger is pretty good, it holds a goodly amount of ammo, and it doesn’t break the bank.

Last but certainly not least Milo’s first last pick is one of our favorites the Colt 38 Super Competition in you guessed it 38 Super.

Milo really likes the way it points and shoots but of course it’s a Colt and it’s a 1911 so nuff said there.

Keep checking back every week for more Milo picks, he works for peanuts so he’s paid well!

Get A Grip

One thing that is constantly overlooked in the pistol shooting world is the grip. People who shoot a lot know that a good grip can make or break your patterning down range. Pistols that seem too big or too small for shooter’s hands can usually be fixed with a good set of grips. Wood, polymer, shock absorbing rubber materials, etc. today’s pistol grip has come a long way from grandpa’s stag jewelry.

The Gun Room Inc. carries Pachmayr, Hogue, and custom grips to fit everything from a 1911 to a Smith & Wesson frame from long ago. Get a grip and put your rounds on target accurately and comfortably by stopping in to The Gun Room Inc. and asking one of the geezer squad about grips.

Blissett Pepper Box

When you hear the word “pepper box” you typically think of something that grinds pepper corns for your fine dining experience. When The Gun Room Inc. says “pepper box” we are talking about the precursor to the modern revolver. When the pepper box first came out it gave an instant tactical advantage over the single shot firearms that were in use at the time. In fact it could be said the pepper box was the first tactical pistol ever in that it could shoot rounds just as fast as you could cock it and pull the trigger.
