Friday Night Flights

It had been about 9 years since I had shot a shotgun, and as luck would have it I had the opportunity to shoot with The Gun Room Inc. last Friday night at The Portland Gun Club. There are always a few butterflies when you don’t shoot for awhile but the guys from The Gun Room Inc. always make you feel comfortable and at ease no matter what your level.

I took my old Remington 1100 trap gun that is older than myself out of it’s gun sock and grabbed a box of shells. To my surprise I broke a few clays right away but then it started to break down. I attribute the first clays as luck, the ones I missed were bad form and bad technique. Warren noticed my shortcomings and promptly gave me an education and a dose of humility as he broke every clay from the waist without even trying.

I had to reset my my internal targeting computer so I grabbed a burger off the grill and watched the shooters on the firing line intently, paying attention to Warren’s words of wisdom to a new shooter. I was digesting more than my burger, I was looking inward at my technique and my attitude of know it all gun guy. Watching young girls under Warren’s tutelage breaking clay pigeons better than I started to hammer home the fact that military training only goes so far.

Thankfully Warren from The Gun Room Inc. found the time to give me a quick refresher and put me back on the firing line. To say my technique improved is an understatement, all the clays I shot at broke with the exception of one, I forgot to load the shotgun on that one!

Even after all these years with my Remington 1100, that I purchased  from The Gun Room Inc. some 20+ years ago, The Gun Room Inc. still supported me and my shortcomings. What other gun store does stuff like that? None! Certainly not any of the online guys selling cheap product to the sheeple.

The Gun Room Inc. didn’t pay me anything to put my two cents in, they just sold me a shotgun back in 1994 and said come shoot with them some one of the Friday nights they shoot. Even in 2017 that offer was still good and so was the skills I picked up. My only beef was that my know it all attitude got in the way of my shooting for so many years.

Give the fellas at The Gun Room Inc. a call and maybe you’ll find something you can’t live without, and if you’re luck you might even learn a thing or two.
